Task:
Repair damaged insulation and cladding on process pipework via Rope Access
Project Overview:
Our client had requested us to carry out a repair on the insulation and cladding of a live piece of process pipework. Due to the previous cladding having worked loose and becoming a potential dropped object hazard our client had to close off the area for access which was resulting in problems with their food manufacturing process.
We were called in as erecting scaffold was both costly and would place the scaffolding team in the line of fire of any dropped objects.
Our Rope Access team were able to rig ropes from above and descend to the worksite clearing all loose objects as they went to allow a safe work area for them to carry out their task.
Installation of new insulation and cladding was carried out as per the original specification and the area was opened up for access within the same day to allow the production team to carry out essential plant maintenance.
This job highlighted to our client how quickly and cost effectively they can achieve a critical work scope by using a rope access team. Within one day our two man team was on site, inducted, permits raised, worksite rigged, all works carried out safely, worksite de-rigged and the site re-opened. With traditional access methods this would have resulted in a sizeable scaffold being erected over a number of days, TIE team to install insulation and cladding for a day and then a number of days to dismantle. Highly disruptive to the site and carries a large cost to implement.
